February 2025 Development Update

Faster File Manager & Optimized Banner Images

1. Speedier File Manager

  • On-Demand ADA Scanning
Previously, the File Manager automatically scanned all files for ADA text as soon as you opened it—slowing things down, especially if you had a large library. Now, ADA checks happen only when you click “Check ADA Errors.” This streamlined approach greatly reduces initial load times, letting you quickly access and manage your files.

2. Optimized Banner Images

Our Banner content element now automatically uploads all non-FM3 images to our latest file management system (FM3) upon saving. This transition ensures:
  • Images are converted to the WebP format, which is more efficient and loads faster.
  • Faster homepage performance for a better user experience.
  • A seamless workflow—no extra steps for you!

Clarifying Image Optimization

We use "optimization" in different ways, but for banners, here’s what it means:

  • WebP Conversion: Banners are now saved in the WebP format, which reduces file size while maintaining quality.
  • Banner Cropping: Our Banner Cropping Tool allows precise framing based on the dimensions set in Site Properties. If a banner isn’t displaying correctly, the aspect ratio may need adjustment. This feature does not change an image’s resolution or public display size. See our Banner Cropping Guide for details.
  • Image Optimization Toggle: For website images other than the banner. Banners cannot use this setting unless the Banner Cropping Tool is turned off—and that’s a good thing! Otherwise, banners would shrink significantly. The default optimized image size is 500px, which is great for the rest of your website. We recommend keeping this setting on for all images. Banners will automatically default to the correct ratio added in your site properties. Learn more in our Image Optimization Guide

Why These Updates Matter

  • Improved Efficiency: Whether you’re uploading new photos or editing banners, these small changes add up to a more responsive, user-friendly experience.
  • Less Waiting Around: Fewer delays mean you can focus on creating and publishing content rather than waiting for things to load.
  • Better Visitor Experience: With optimized banner images, your school or district’s homepage loads faster—helping parents, students, and staff find what they need quickly.
