This article goes over what standards CatapultCMS covers by default and with the use of our ADA Remediation Service
Built-in ADA Compliance Features
Your CatapultCMS template was designed with WCAG 2.1 A and AA ADA standards in mind. Before launch, we review and adjust your content to enhance compliance, ensuring:
-
High Contrast Mode: An option to improve readability for visually impaired users.
-
Sitemap for Alphabetic Navigation: Allows users to quickly locate content.
-
Forced ADA Image Descriptions: Requires alt text before images can be uploaded, ensuring accessibility for screen readers.
-
Keyboard Navigation: Our designs allow full navigation via keyboard, ensuring accessibility for users who cannot use a mouse.
-
Accessible Designs at 200% Zoom: Our templates are built to maintain usability and readability even at increased zoom levels, meeting accessibility standards.
While these features provide a strong foundation for accessibility, ongoing content updates require continuous compliance checks.
The Need for Ongoing ADA Compliance
As website maintainers update content, new accessibility challenges may arise. Ensuring compliance is an ongoing process that requires regular audits and updates. To support our clients in maintaining ADA compliance and reducing the risk of litigation, CatapultCMS offers an ADA Remediation Service.
ADA Remediation Service
Our ADA Remediation Service is an add-on service that offers hourly ADA scanning and remediation. We will generate a monthly report and fix any confirmed error we find.
-
Automated Scanning with WebAIM WAVE: We use the WebAIM WAVE API to identify accessibility errors across your site.
-
Remediation of Single A and AA Errors: We correct errors related to contrast, missing alt text, empty headers, improper heading structures, and other common accessibility issues.
-
Fixing Confirmed Errors Only: We address all flagged errors but do not remediate "possible errors" that require subjective interpretation.
What We Do Not Cover
-
Video and PDF Remediation: While we can identify accessibility issues in these formats, remediation of videos and PDFs is outside the scope of this service.
-
Guaranteed Compliance: While we strive to correct accessibility errors, full WCAG compliance remains the responsibility of the client.
Protect Your District from Accessibility Risks
Web accessibility is complex, and failure to address compliance issues can lead to complaints and costly Office for Civil Rights (OCR) investigations. Establishing a monthly audit and remediation plan can help your district proactively identify and correct accessibility errors before they become liabilities.
Important Disclaimer
CatapultCMS cannot guarantee full WCAG compliance. While we make reasonable efforts to assist clients in maintaining accessibility standards, ultimate responsibility for compliance remains with the client.
